Cheer Description

Program Description:

Project Cheer loves and follows the curriculum successfully developed by cheer gym owners/coaches and high school cheer coaches from all over the Salt Lake area. The “Show Cheer
Program” is based on training cheer students to become a well rounded cheerleader on the high
school level.
The inspiration came for this program by high school cheer coaches disappointed in the lack of
well rounded cheerleaders coming into their large programs. Their high school programs were either
receiving dancers that have amazing performing skills and clean lines, but cannot stunt. Or All-star
cheerleaders that can tumble and stunt well but have horrible lines and cannot perform with solid
dance skills they needed. They wanted well rounded cheerleaders that are proficient in four areas;
tumbling, stunting, performance skills (dance and showmanship) and proper cheer technique. Our
curriculums focus is on all 4 of these areas.

Project Cheer is thrilled to have their cheerleaders compete at 4 “cheer only” local competitions with other cheerleading teams using similar curriculums. They will be judged by certified cheer judges and will receive sound critiques that will strengthen the program and our individual cheer students. Project Cheers Varsity Team will compete in both a “show routine” and a “time out dance” routine. Mini Cheer will compete in a “show routine” only.
Project Cheer in the fall of 2018 will continue to offer a Mini Cheer Team and a combined JV and
Varsity Team. JV and Varsity’s weekly classes will include an one hour cheer technique class where
they will work on their “time out” competition dance routine which consists of dancing, cheer motions
and jumps. Their second class will be a stunting only class where safety will be practiced and expected!
Our cheerleaders will also have their hour and a half “show routine” practice on a second evening where they combine a cheer, stunts, tumbling and dancing into one competition routine. A tumbling class that is separated by level, not by team, is their 4th class. A placement audition for tumbling will be held the first week of August to determine your students class and time. An email will be sent prior so you know
what time to send your cheerleader for the placement audition.

Mini Cheer Teams curriculum consists of a once a week choreography class (1.5 hours long) where
they work on their “show routine” and also a one hour tumbling class that is based off of level, not
which cheer team they are on. A placement audition will also be held for this age group the first week of
August to determine their class and time. An email will be sent prior so you know what time to send your
cheerleader for the placement audition.

Project Cheer is excited to have the support from the local high school cheer programs that our studio will eventually feed. In fact, we have worked closely hand in hand with the cheer coaches at Herriman, Riverton and Copper Hills High to develop the curriculum for this program and coordinate competitions. Project Cheer teams will also have other performance opportunities in the community depending on readiness and availability.
Not only are local high schools cheer programs backing up this program at Project Cheer, we also
have full support from the Utah High School Athletic Association. Next season the Utah High School
Cheer State Competition will continue to hold a division just for our program and others similar to
ours. The competition will be held in early April. We will compete against other cheer teams our age and
level. The level of professionalism and validity this program has without the ridiculous cost of an Allstar
program is what also attributes to it’s quick success.
An amazing program is only one piece to the puzzle. Having an experienced and qualified coach
directing is the other piece.

Our mission for our “Project Show Cheer Program”, is to provide our students with a safe, competitive yet fun environment where they can develop their full potential as a well rounded cheerleader, giving the opportunity to compete and perform in our community while preparing them for future cheerleading opportunities at the high school level.
